Luring you in with shiny phones
It’s a no brainer that we are currently living the beginning of a smartphone revolution. Just about everyone who is anyone has a smartphone capable of making calls and even connecting to the internet at all times. The market for smartphones is only going to increase to do more popularity and low cost due to them getting cheaper to produce. It’s gotten to the point where companies are giving them out for free! Is this idea of getting a new phone for free to good to be true? How do you know if you got a good deal on your brand new smartphone? How do you ignore all these ads that are asking you to sign up for a two-year contract? And how are these companies convincing people to sign up for 2 -year contracts? Easy, make them think you are giving a them a deal for example a free phone with a 2-year contract which would include a data plan which would cost you 100 dollars a month! For those who don’t know anything about data plans ,which is a huge number in our population it is a setup for failure. With so many different alternatives to buying a smartphone with no contract using the same networks from the big name companies why sign up for a contract? Odds are that the phone you are being given for ”free” probably doesn’t match the monthly payments you are paying. Then they restrict you from moving to another carrier and if you choose to get out within those 2 years you are looking at a fee of over $150 dollars. It’s all sick but these companies put a lot of work into advertising to rip off many consumers with their shiny new Iphones and free phones! Its all a scam to lock you up with a bill you can’t avoid in 2 years and if you decide to get out then get ready to pay a $150 fee. In the end the phone company will receive money in any way.
Don’t fall for the nice shiny phone thing it’s all too good to be true.
These advertisements for new phones with contracts are everywhere and you can’t walk near a place that sells phones without someone trying to get you to sign up for a contract. Most of the ads are usually the same using a nice and shiny phone for example a IPhone 5s for 100 dollars with 2 year contract. Many people these days don’t check the terms in the contract and sign up being lured by the sound of getting and Iphone for 100 dollars. They aren’t told that they have to pay extra for data and these companies are really take advantages over people who don’t know about technology. Since the customer is so lured with getting a brand new phone he or she doesn’t gets check the terms and gets the phone anyway not know for what they are being set up in. These companies are multi billion dollar corporations and you bet they are making serious amount of money over this scandal. The idea of signing a 2 year contract is so normal to many of us that the company uses this as an advertisement hook and saying they have many customers.
I mean look at their websites with their picture of all those “happy customers.” Just because everyone has a contract doesn’t mean you should have one as well. One advertisement shows the amount of members in the world in the United states with coverage areas in which prepaid companies are using the same networks and convince you to be part of them and get a free phone. They always show how fast they’re LTE speeds when pairing them with fast racing cars in a commercial yet it is all the same connection 4g lte will be the same 4g lte and 3g an 3g with another company it all depends on the coverage area . It’s a war between territory and it all depends on where you are standing. Some companies have more coverage in some areas and others don’t’. It’s an endless game in which one has more territory and then the other could claim they have more coverage. I mean the coverage for the major carriers.
One may argue that getting a phone with a contract has saved them lots of many but indeed I am positive you could buy the same phone unlocked and subscribe to a prepaid company that offers a way better deal than these 2 year contracts. Its pretty much if you would rather want the phone now go subscribe to a 2 year company but it will cost you.
Next time you see a phone store selling phones with 2 year contract don’t be fooled by the “great deals” they have on phones when other companies sell the phone for the actual price and you don’t end up paying $100 a month and being stuck with that bill for 2 years. Its all a rip off and do the math with prepaid and contract phones. It would save you a lot of money. It’s just too good to be true.
